Retinal Laser Treatment

Advanced Retinal Care

Advancing the frontiers of retinal care, Divyajyoti Eye Hospital is equipped with the Retinal Green Laser, a highly specialized technology tailored for treating various sight-threatening retinal conditions.

This advanced laser system allows our experienced retinal specialists to target specific areas of the retina with extreme precision, delivering personalized treatments without damaging surrounding healthy tissue.

How Does It Work?

The Retinal Green Laser is used for a procedure called Photocoagulation. It involves applying a precise laser beam to the affected retina. The heat from the laser seals leaking blood vessels or creates microscopic scars to tack down a tearing retina.

Primary Uses

  • Diabetic Retinopathy: To seal leaking blood vessels (Focal Laser) or shrink abnormal vessels (Pan-Retinal Photocoagulation) to prevent severe vision loss.
  • Retinal Tears/Holes: To "spot weld" the area around a tear, preventing fluid from passing through and causing a full Retinal Detachment.
  • Retinal Vein Occlusion: To treat macular edema (swelling) caused by blocked veins.

Key Advantages

  • Non-Invasive: No incisions or surgery required.
  • Precision: Targets only the diseased tissue, sparing healthy vision.
  • Outpatient: Performed in the clinic; you go home the same day.
  • Vision Preservation: Highly effective at preventing blindness from progressive retinal diseases.

Common Questions about Retinal Laser

The primary goal of retinal laser is to stabilize vision and prevent further loss. It typically does not improve vision that has already been lost due to retinal damage, but it is crucial for saving remaining sight.

Side effects are usually temporary and may include blurred vision, mild headache, or seeing spots/glare for a few days. In rare cases, some loss of peripheral or night vision may occur depending on the extent of treatment.

The procedure itself usually takes 10 to 20 minutes. However, pupil dilation beforehand takes about 30 minutes. You should plan to be at the clinic for about an hour or more.
