Road, which brings you to the 7 Bungalows bus depot with our entrance opposite. Depending on how Link Road is moving, that is broadly a 15 minute drive, and slower on a bad evening. Because it is a road people here already travel for shopping and errands, patients often fold a consultation into an evening trip rather than making a separate journey of it. That fits our OPD timing, which runs Monday to Saturday from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and is closed on Sunday. About ICL Surgery
An implantable collamer lens placed inside the eye to correct vision without removing or reshaping any corneal tissue.
Who is this for?
ICL may be considered for:
- Adults with a stable prescription who want to reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
- People whose corneas are too thin, or whose spectacle power is too high, for LASIK or Trans-PRK.
- People with dry eyes who prefer not to have corneal tissue reshaped.
- Those who want a correction that can be reversed or exchanged later.
Before an ICL can be planned we measure the internal dimensions of the front of the eye, assess the cornea, examine the retina and check eye pressure and the drainage angle. ICL is not suitable in every eye: a shallow anterior chamber, certain angle findings, active eye disease or an unstable prescription are all reasons to advise against it.

What the procedure involves
- A detailed pre-operative workup: refraction, corneal measurements, anterior chamber measurements, gonioscopy, eye pressure and a dilated retina evaluation.
- The lens is ordered to your individual power and size, so there is a wait between the workup and the surgery date.
- On the day of surgery the eye is numbed with drops or a local anaesthetic. You remain awake.
- A small opening is made at the edge of the cornea.
- The folded lens is introduced through that opening and positioned behind the iris, in front of your natural lens.
- Lens position and eye pressure are checked before you leave. The opening is self-sealing and stitches are usually not required.
- The procedure takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes and is performed in our sterile operating theatres maintained to NABH guidelines.
Recovery and follow-up
Vision usually begins to improve within the first day or two, though it can fluctuate while the eye settles. Mild glare, haloes at night, watering or a gritty feeling during the first week are common.
Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are prescribed on a tapering schedule. Many people resume everyday activities within a few days, but your surgeon will tell you when to restart driving, the gym, swimming and dusty or heavy work.
Follow-up is arranged for the next day and then at intervals, so that eye pressure, lens position and the drainage angle can be checked. The lens needs no cleaning or daily handling, unlike a contact lens, but an annual eye examination is recommended for life. You will still be asked to attend routine follow-up examinations after the procedure.
